A Very Good copy with a curious custom binding, date unknown. Text is bright and fresh with good margins. Title page has seen restoration. First fifteen pages or so have some trace staining/soiling to the bottom right corner likely caused by moisture. All three edges of the text block have bright red stain. Binding is tight and square. Text is clean internally with some faint to moderate foxing on several pages. Front board is rounded over the text block. Hardcover. Small Octavo. 200pp. 

A pirated edition of Rousseau's magnum opus, believed to have been the first imprint of the text published in Paris [Leigh 56 & 58]. An exceptionally important work of Political Philosophy, informed and codified the philosophies that motivated the American and French Revolutions.
